Egypt combines its differences and offers a great diversity of landscape and culture.

With more than 1 million square kilometers land area, Egypt is located at the North-East border of the African continent and borders on the Sudan and Libya. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Between the two seas you can find the Sinai Peninsula, which is a part of Egypt and creates a connection to the Asian continent.

The land is influenced by the Islam, which is the state religion. But there are scattered Christian communities, too. The capital city Cairo has a population of almost 8 million people and is the central point of all commercial and political concerns. The common language there is Arabic.

An important subsistence for people and nature is even today the Nile River. With an overall length of 6.400 kilometers, the Nile River is one of the longest rivers of the world. 1.550 kilometers long, the Nile flows through Egypt and leaves a fertile shoreline. The climate, which is heavy influenced by the Nile River, can be divided into 5 different areas. These are mostly characterized by mild winters and warm to hot summers. In the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula however there can be – for Egypt – cold winters, with up to 53 degrees Fahrenheit (which is 12 degrees Celcius).

Even the flora and fauna has adapted to the different conditions of the continent. In the enlarged deserts grows many different kinds of grasses, thorny shrubs and herbs. Here lives rabbits, lizards, snakes and scorpions. Ashore of the Nile River you can find carobs, date palms, weeping willows and eucalyptus trees. In the Nile delta you can even see lotus trees and papyrus. In winter this is a meeting point for many migratory birds from Europe.

Besides the agriculture, tourism is one of the most important sources of income for Egypt. Especially popular with tourists are the Pyramids of Giza, which are one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Either worth seeing is the Valley of the Kings, which can be reached best from Luxor.

Directly in the holiday area of Sharm El-Sheikh, at the wonderful Naama Bay, only 200 meters away from the centre of the village, lays the Helnan Marina Sharm.

Divers await here a wide variety of breathtaking diving sites, such as Ras Mohammed or the Straits of Tiran. Here exist 4 coral reefs. One of them is called Jackson Reef. During a drift dive for example it is possible to see turtles and some kind of sharks.

Well-known to divers are furthermore the Straits of Gubal, which connects the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea. Here are beautiful diving sites like Small Crack, where you can find great corals, turtles and sometimes leopard sharks.
